ANSI Testing Guidelines for Batch Transactions

Helpful Information for Providers/Vendors testing HIPAA 5010 format:

• It is suggested a minimum of 25, but no more than 50 claims/requests be submitted for each line of business you wish to test.
• The preferred communication method is via Internet File Transfer.  If you are unable to utilize Internet File Transfer, then Secure FTP or a Network Service vendor are also available.  A Telecommunications Manual may be downloaded for further information on these options. 
• Important:  The trading partner is responsible for downloading the acknowledgements for review.  The 999 and 277CA Acknowledgements, for claims, are available for download within 2-4 hours after transmission.  The Acknowledgements Manual is available to assist you in understanding this information.  For any questions regarding testing or acknowledgements please contact the Help Desk at 1-800-472-6481, opt. 1.

Helpful information for Vendors:

• It is important that software vendors review the Companion Guides before sending test files. (Providers will also benefit from reviewing these documents)
• If you wish to test as a vendor, it will work best if you are able to test with an NPI that is currently setup with us.
