New York Vendor Call Minutes
July 6, 2006 

Welcome:   The New York vendor call will be held the first Thursday of odd numbered months (Jan, March, May, July, September, November). Input is requested from the vendors on how often they wish to have the call. The call begins at 10:00 AM ET.   A representative from BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York will be present on each call.  All vendors are encouraged to sign up for the Vendor notification on the New York Customers section of the e-mail lists. 

General Announcements:

  • Vendors wishing to receive an email notification reminding them of the next meeting will need to visit the ASK Website.  Locate New York Customers on the ASK website, from the E-mail List Sign-up select Vendors.  This option has recently been added under New York Customers, so please check to make sure you have selected this option.  The direct link is http://www.ask-edi.com/listserver/all_hnny_signup.htm.
  • Vendor Call Minutes will be published within 10 days of the call, to the ASK Website under New York Customers.  Occasionally, questions asked in the Vendor Call will have to be researched.  When possible answers will be published in the Vendor Call Minutes.
  • The next system deployment is scheduled for July 9, 2006.
  • We encourage all vendors and trading partners to verify that the contact person listed at ASK is correct. Only the contact person listed under a Trading Partner can request to have a password reset or unsuspended. Vendors are encouraged to have providers list more than one contact person for each Trading Partner.
  • The next issue of the Just ASK! Newsletter will be published in August.

837 Issues:
            Nothing to report.

835 Issues:
As a reminder, payee numbers will automatically be setup as production for the 835 unless instructed otherwise by the trading partner.

Telecommunication Issues

  • A notification will be sent to all Trading Partners within the next few weeks with notification of the planned discontinuation of the toll-free dial up numbers for electronic transactions.  The toll free connection will no longer be available for asynchronous or FTP file transfers as of July 31, 2006.  Trading partners may still use a dial up connection through the local Topeka number.
    • Topeka Dial up Numbers
      • FTP Dial Up (785-290-0901)
      • Asynchronous Dial Up (785-291-9909)

As of July 1, 2007, the Asynchronous connection will be discontinued.   The Zmodem, Xmodem and Ymodem protocols are older technology.  If a hardware failure should occur, there is no guarantee repairs could be made.

NPI

  • Provider should report their new NPI numbers to the payer.  The NPI confirmation letter may be faxed to 716-887-2006.
  • At this time there is still an edit in place to reject claims reporting the NPI number.  At this time there is no target date for when this edit will be lifted.

Other Issues:

  • No other issues were presented during the call.
