New York Vendor Call Minutes
January 5, 2006
Welcome: The New York vendor call will be held the first Thursday of odd numbered months (Jan, March, May, July, September, November). Input is requested from the vendors on how often they wish to have the call. The call begins at 10:00 AM ET. Representatives
from BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and Blue Shield of Northeastern New York will be present on each call. All vendors are encouraged to sign up for the Vendor notification on the New York Customers section of the e-mail lists.
General Announcements:
- Vendors wishing to receive an email notification reminding them of the next meeting will need to visit the ASK Website. Locate New York Customers on the ASK website, from the E-mail List Sign-up select Vendors. This option has recently been added under New York
Customers, so please check to make sure you have selected this option. The direct link is http://www.ask-edi.com/listserver/all_hnny_signup.htm.
- Vendor Call Minutes will be published within 10 days of the call, to the ASK Website under New York Customers. Occasionally, questions asked in the Vendor Call will have to be researched. When possible answers will be published in the Vendor Call Minutes.
- Payer edits for NPI have not been implemented for New York Customers. All vendors are reminded that when an NPI is received, ASK will authenticate the number. More information on NPI edits will be provided in future conference calls.
- NPI enrollment is now available for all providers on the Internet at https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/NPPES/Welcome.do.
- ASK is working on a Secure FTP option. There will be more information on this option during the March vendor call. Once the secure FTP option is available ASK will be working with vendors still supporting Asynchronous protocols. Asynchronous Communications
will no longer be toll-free after April 2006. Vendors are strongly encouraged to move all X, Y, or Zmodem users to other options. FTP, Internet, Ivans and VisionShare are all viable options. More information on Ivans and VisionShare can be found on
the ASK Website under Connectivity Options. There is also helpful information under FAQ’s.
- The next EDI system deployment is scheduled for Sunday January 22. Some minor edits will be added with a 60-day warning. The new edits can be reviewed at: http://www.ask-edi.com/pdf-docs/new_baseline_edits.pdf .
- ASK will be replacing the UPS resulting in the system being unavailable. This will be implemented in two phases. Phase I will occur on Feb. 12. The system will be down from 8:00AM till midnight, at the very latest. The second phase will
occur on Mar. 12 with the same downtimes.
- ASK Newsletter will no longer be mailed beginning January 2006. If trading partners have signed up for Newsletter email list, they will be notified when the newsletter is available. Trading Partners without internet access may download the newsletter from
the public mailbox at:

275 Issues:
- A reminder that the comment period for the 275 (attachments) will be closing soon. Comments can be made through the HHS website. The website www.hl7.org contains FAQ’s regarding this transaction.
