New York Vendor Call Minutes
May 5, 2005

Welcome: Today marks the first scheduled conference call for New York vendors. We will conduct the call the first Thursday of the month for at least the next three months. We will evaluate at that time how often a call should be held. We welcome input from participants on how often the call should be held. The call begins at 10:00 AM ET. Representatives from BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and Blue Shield of Northeastern New York will be present on each call. All vendors are encouraged to sign up for the Vendor notification on the New York Customers section of the e-mail lists.

General Announcements:

  • On 4/3/2005, new edits were implemented for professional, institutional and dental claims. The HCPCS and CPT4 procedure codes and diagnosis codes are now being edited by date of service. The 60-day warning period began on 4/3/05. This will be changed to a rejection at the end of the 60 days. Providers and vendors are encouraged to notify ASK of any rejections they feel they are receiving in error.
  • New Level 3 edits were implemented in the EDI System on 4/3/2005. The edits were set as warnings for 90 days and will reject after the 90-day warning period.
  • Vendors were reminded that the Revenue Code 0001 is not a valid code according to NUBC. This code should not be used on electronic transactions.
  • ASK is currently reviewing new edits for NPI. More information on the edits will be provided in future conference calls.
  • An agreement has been reached between ASK and the Network Service vendors, IVANS and VisionShare to provide access to ASK. Current connectivity options are still available. However, ASK is encouraging trading partners sending asynchronous communications (X, Y, or Zmodem) to investigate other options. ASK no longer has hardware support on the server utilizing these protocols. The Internet file transfer option is also available at no cost. Information and links to these new options may be found on the ASK website at: http://www.ask-edi.com/healthnow_ny/connectivity_options.htm.

837 Issues:

  • None to report.

835 Issues:

  • Concern was expressed regarding the inability to conduct multiple file downloads. The trading partner number is not received in the remit file, therefore, remits are parsed by the provider number into the trading partner mailboxes. There may be other options available in the future that could facilitate multiple file downloads. For now, trading partners may want to look into using FTP and utilizing commands to retrieve all files at one time. If you wish to use FTP, please contact ASK so this can be setup on our end.

Other Issues:

  • Due to the length of the Claim Confirmation Report, a request was made to receive the 277U report instead. This is an Unsolicited 277 report (a report generated without the 276 inquiry). ASK does not support this report, and we do not consider it to be the same as the Claims Confirmation Report. Suggestions for improvements to the Claims Confirmation Report have been submitted, but there is no time frame for when these might be implemented.
  • A problem was reported with on-line transfers via the ASK website. While doing a “browse” the computer will sometimes lockup to the point where it must be rebooted. This problem only occurs when utilizing the ASK website for file transfers. ASK HelpDesk staff has not had this problem reported by anyone. They suggested accessing Internet Options and clearing History, Cookies and Temporary Files. There are also troubleshooting tips on the website at: http://www.ask-edi.com/help/index.htm, that maybe helpful.
