New York Vendor Call Minutes
May 11, 2006
Welcome: The New York vendor call will be held the first Thursday of odd numbered months (Jan, March, May, July, September, November). Input is requested from the vendors on how often they wish to have the call. The call begins at 10:00 AM ET. Representatives
from BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and Blue Shield of Northeastern New York will be present on each call. All vendors are encouraged to sign up for the Vendor notification on the New York Customers section of the e-mail lists.
General Announcements:
- Vendors wishing to receive an email notification reminding them of the next meeting will need to visit the ASK Website. Locate New York Customers on the ASK website, from the E-mail List Sign-up select Vendors. This option has recently been added under New York
Customers, so please check to make sure you have selected this option. The direct link is http://www.ask-edi.com/listserver/all_hnny_signup.htm.
- Vendor Call Minutes will be published within 10 days of the call, to the ASK Website under New York Customers. Occasionally, questions asked in the Vendor Call will have to be researched. When possible answers will be published in the Vendor Call Minutes.
- The HCFA 1500 claim form has been updated to allow for NPI number. This may affect anyone using a print image file. The new form goes in effect Oct. 1, 2006 and will become mandatory February 1, 2007. The UB92 is scheduled to be updated for
use beginning in March 07 and both new form will be mandatory beginning May 23, 2007.
837 Issues:
Nothing new to report.
835 Issues:
Question raised regarding multiple remits for one check. Because ASK only distributes the file as received from the payer. A contact name at HealthNow will be emailed to those needing a response.
275 Issues:
- A reminder that the comment period for the 275 (attachments) will be closing soon. Comments can be made through the HHS website. The website www.hl7.org contains FAQ’s regarding this transaction.
Telecommunication Issues
- A notification will be sent to all Trading Partners within the next few weeks with notification of the planned discontinuation of the toll-free dial up numbers for electronic transactions. The toll free connection will no longer be available for asynchronous or FTP
file transfers as of July 31, 2006. Trading partners may still use a dial up connection through the local Topeka number.

As of July 1, 2007, the Asynchronous connection will be discontinued. The Zmodem, Xmodem and Ymodem protocols are older technology. If a hardware failure should occur there is no guarantee repairs could be made.
