November 1, 2007

General Announcements:

  • The next system deployment is scheduled for Sunday December 2, 2007.

Telecommunication Issues:

  • ASK is currently working to provide multiple file downloads through the ASK website.  We are looking towards January or February to have this available.  More information will be shared during the January call.

NPI

  • The remainder of the call was spent addressing NPI related issues.  Jack Kurkowiak, Jennifer Delmont, and Robert Lane of HealthNow led this portion.
  • As of 12/3/07, HealthNow New York Inc. and its affiliates, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and BlueShield of Northeastern New York, will accept Provider Identification Numbers on 837 transactions in the following manner:
  • Legacy Only
  • NPI Only
  • Legacy and NPI

If an NPI is billed it is the ONLY number used to process the claim.

  • Existing warnings will become rejects on 12/2/07 for the following:

H372 – Billing NPI not tied to payer table
H373 – Rendering NPI not tied to payer table
H376 – Billing NPI not tied to TP number
H377 – Billing NPI not on payer provider file
H378 – Billing NPI not set up for this transaction
  • HealthNow will be sending a letter to all providers with a reminder of the 12/3/07 date and what changes will occur.  A copy of this letter will be posted on the New York Customers section of the ASK website once it has been sent.
  • Vendors were encouraged to work with providers who continue to get NPI warnings.  If NPI has not been reported to the payer the following methods are available:
    • Fax NPI to 716-887-2056 (copy of NPPES confirmation letter is preferred, or information can be reported on letterhead).
    • Email information to Robert Lane (Lane.Robert @ healthnow.org)

837 Issues

  • Nothing new to report.

835 Issues

  • HealthNow is still working on passing an 835 test file to vendors wishing to test.  The legacy provider number will still be in the file.  HealthNow hopes to be in production within the next few weeks.
  • Any vendor or clearinghouse interested in testing an 835 transaction with NPI should contact Tammy Smith at ASK (Tammy.Smith@ask-edi.com  or 785-291-4070) to be setup for testing.  ASK will notify the testing vendors when the test file is available.

Other Issues:

  • ASK wants to encourage you and your clients to share suggestions and ideas on how we can provide better assistance.  Please send an email with suggestions to askedi@ask-edi.com.
