New York Vendor Call Minutes
November 10, 2005 

Welcome:   The New York vendor call will be held the first Thursday of odd numbered months (Jan, March, May, July, September, November). Input is requested from the vendors on how often they wish to have the call. The call begins at 10:00 AM ET.  Representatives from BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and Blue Shield of Northeastern New York will be present on each call.  All vendors are encouraged to sign up for the Vendor notification on the New York Customers section of the e-mail lists. 

 

General Announcements:

  • Vendors wishing to receive an email notification reminding them of the next meeting will need to visit the ASK Website.  Locate New York Customers on the ASK website, from the E-mail List Sign-up select Vendors.  This option has recently been added under New York Customers, so please check to make sure you have selected this option.  The direct link is http://www.ask-edi.com/listserver/all_hnny_signup.htm.
  • Vendor Call Minutes will be published within 10 days of the call, to the ASK Website under New York Customers.  Occasionally, questions asked in the Vendor Call will have to be researched.  When possible answers will be published in the Vendor Call Minutes.
  • Payer edits for NPI have not been implemented for New York Customers.  All vendors are reminded that when an NPI is received, ASK will authenticate the number.  More information on NPI edits will be provided in future conference calls.
  • NPI enrollment is now available for all providers on the Internet at https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/NPPES/Welcome.do
  • Asynchronous Communications will no longer be toll-free after April 2006.  Vendors are strongly encouraged to move all X, Y, or Zmodem users to other options.  FTP, Internet, Ivans and VisionShare are all viable options.  More information on Ivans and VisionShare can be found on the ASK Website under Connectivity Options.  There is also helpful information under FAQ’s.
  • Due to new security issues brought about by CMS, ASK will be changing   password requirements on December 4, 2005.  New passwords guidelines can be found at: http://www.ask-edi.com/news/102405_systemPasswords.htm   
  • In and effort to eliminate unnecessary information in the EDI System, ASK will begin deleting inactive provider numbers.  Provider numbers that do not show any activity for a 6-month period will be removed from the EDI System, effective immediately.
  • ASK Newsletter will no longer be mailed beginning January 2006.  If trading partners have signed up for Newsletter email list, they will be notified when the newsletter is available.  Trading Partners without internet access may download the newsletter from the public mailbox at:

  • Several edits dealing with procedure and diagnosis codes and date validation have been changed from errors to warnings.   Direction from payers will be gathered and the edits will be reworked.  No target date on when these will be changed.  An update will be given during the next vendor call.

 

837 Issues:

  • Next deployment is scheduled for 12/4/05. The following are some of the changes that will occur:
    • Changes to password requirements.   New password guidelines can be seen at: http://www.ask-edi.com/news/102405_systemPasswords.htm
    • Changes to SmartXfer – test instructions will be available on the website soon.  Email notification will be sent to all vendors signed up for the email listing on the New York section under Vendors.
    • Changes will be made to several error descriptions in an effort to make them more user-friendly.
    • Changes to Claims Confirmation Report.   Please see description of changes at:http://www.ask-edi.com/news/102705_claims-confirm.htm   Vendors may download an example of this report from the public mailbox.

835 Issues:

  • Vendors are encouraged to begin testing as soon as possible. If you have any questions regarding testing or enrollment please contact Tammy Smith at Tammy.Smith@ask-edi.com or Lori Jennings at Lori.Jennings@ask-edi.com.     
  • Reminder – when enrolling for the 835 please enroll the payee number.  This number can be found on the paper remittance and is identified as such.

275 Issues:

  • A reminder that the comment period for the 275 (attachments) will be closing soon.  Comments can be made through the HHS website.  The website www.hl7.org contains FAQ’s regarding this transaction.

Other Issues:

  • No other issues were presented during the call.
