J5 Information:
- The Medicare Jurisdiction 5 A/B MAC transition is scheduled to be completed by March 1, 2008. To keep up to date and informed of all changes regarding this transition providers and vendors are encouraged to sign-up for email notifications at: http://www.wheatlandsadmin.com/, or http://www.wpsmedicare.com/provider/mac.shtml. Please take a moment and verify you and your clients have no problems in splitting out Medicare claims from combined batches. Medicare only batches will need to be sent to WPS March 1, 2008.
- All Medicare electronic claims transaction to the EDI Front End must be completed by February 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. (central). Remittance advices and MCS EDI Edit reports (H99RAR04) will continue to be delivered as scheduled to Trading Partner mailboxes until the transition date of March 1, 2008. Remittance advices and reports delivered to Trading Partners mailboxes prior to March 1, 2008 will remain available for thirty days after delivery.
- CMS has issued a dark day of February 29, 2008. A dark day means BCBSKS Medicare is closed for business.
- WPS Medicare has announced three WPS Medicare EDI Ask the Contractor calls.

Please plan on attending these calls with your clients.
- If you or your clients use the free PC-ACE Pro32 software, you will be able to continue to use the BCBSKS version. Users will be notified by email concerning a service pack that will be available in the near future. The current version of PC-ACE Pro32 software issued by BCBSKS is 1.90.
- All BCBSKS Medicare clients that have a Trading Partner number will need to apply for a WPS Medicare submitter number as soon as possible. Vendors, billing services, clearinghouse or anyone that files claims, receives remittance advices or reports through a trading partner number needs to apply for a WPS Medicare submitter number as soon as possible.
- BCBSKS and ASK will continue to accept claims for all payers except Medicare after February 29, 2008. Payers include BCBSKS, BCBSKC, HealthNow NY, PHP and EDI Midwest Commercial Claims Clearinghouse.
- Laurie with WPS Medicare attended the call and shared several pieces of information including the WPS web address of: http://www.wpsic.com/edi/med_macj5.shtml
- WPS is urging Medicare providers, billing services, clearinghouses and vendors to sign up for a WPS Medicare submitter number as soon as possible.
- Medicare submitters will need to test with WPS prior to the transition March 1, 2008.
- Currently only 24 of a possible 2400 Medicare B submitters have been approved for production. Only 80 Medicare Part B WPS submitter numbers have been assigned.
- Currently only 2 of a possible 200 Medicare A submitters have been approved for production.
- WPS, BCBSKS Medicare asked for assistance from those attending the call today to forward EDI information to their clients. WPS and BCBSKS Medicare are working for a smooth transition.
General Announcements
- NPI is now required on all EDI Enrollment forms. Forms are available at: http://www.ask-edi.com/forms.htm. Please take a moment to update your forms for your clients. This speeds the setup for electronic transactions.
NPI Information
- BCBSKS:
- 837 Transactions (Claims) – Accepts NPI only, Dual Use. Trading partners wanting to send NPI only must notify BCBSKS first.
- NPI is required on all claims submitted January 1, 2008.
- Edit B383 rejects claims, as of January 1, 2008, when an NPI is not submitted in the billing provider loop.
- Legacy only is no longer accepted, January 1, 2008.
- BCBSKC:
- 837 Transactions (Claims) – Accepts NPI only, Dual Use, or Legacy only.
- 835 Transactions (Remits) – If the NPI has been reported to the payer, trading partners will receive both legacy and NPI on all 835 transactions.
- Medicare A:
- Medicare B:
- 837 Transactions (Claims) – Accepts NPI only, Dual Use.
- March 1, 2008, claims submitted with a legacy provider number will reject on the MCS EDI Edit Reports (H99RAR04). NPI will be required. This date coincides with the J5 transition to WPS.
- January 7, 2008 Medicare B implemented "informational" edits for claims containing a legacy identifier at the 2310A, 2310C, 2310D and 2310E loop. These informational edits will reject May 23, 2008.
- CMS is urging the submission of NPI as soon as possible on all electronic transaction.
Trading Partner Education
- We can't express enough how important it is to have everyone reading reports for rejections and warnings.
All Payer Information
- Medicare B
- January 7th and 8th ERA and MCS EDI Edit reports with the IXE extension were delivered on Wednesday January 9th the delay was caused by standard system updates for the January 2008 release.
System Updates
- The next routine system deployment is scheduled for February 17, 2008.
