J5 Information:

  • The J5 A/B MAC completed for Kansas, Nebraska and NW Missouri Fee for Service Medicare on March 1, 2008. 
  • Clients calling with Medicare EDI questions are being directed to WPS Medicare EDI department at 1-866-503-9670. Web address is www.wpsmedicare.com, email address for Medicare A is EDIMedicareA@wpsic.com, and email address for Medicare B is EDIMedicareB@wpsic.com
  • Medicare electronic transactions submitted after March 1, 2008 to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) will reject and be returned with a 3001 – Unable to determine route, message. 
  • If you or your clients use the free PC-ACE Pro32 software, you will be able to continue to use the BCBSKS version.  A service pack was made available to users on January 29, 2008. The current version of PC-ACE Pro32 software issued by BCBSKS is 1.90. A quarterly release of the PC-ACE Pro32 software is being prepared and will be available soon after April 1, 2008. 
  • BCBSKS and ASK continues to accept claims for all payers except Medicare. Payers include BCBSKS, BCBSKC, HealthNow NY, PHP and EDI Midwest Commercial Claims Clearinghouse. 

Questions and Answers:

  • Do you accept Preferred Health Professionals (PHP)?  
  • Yes, we accept PHP claims at no charge.

Along with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS), we also accept at no additional charge claims for, Freedom Network, Freedom Network Select, BlueCross BlueShield of Kansas City (BCBSKC),
Preferred Health Professionals PPO (PHP PPO), Mo-Kan Sheet Metal Workers Welfare Fund, Health Partners of Kansas, HealthNow New York, Inc.,

NPI Information

  • BCBSKS:
    • 837 Transactions (Claims) – Accepts NPI only, Dual Use. Trading partners wanting to send NPI only must notify BCBSKS first.
    • NPI is required on all claims submitted January 1, 2008.
    • Legacy only is no longer accepted, January 1, 2008.
    • Currently providers with a high volume of NPI rejections are being contacted. We are urging providers to contact their vendor/clearinghouse/billing service.
  • BCBSKC:
    • 837 Transactions (Claims) – Accepts NPI only, Dual Use, or Legacy only.
    • 835 Transactions (Remits) – If the NPI has been reported to the payer, trading partners will receive both legacy and NPI on all 835 transactions.

  • The next routine system deployment is scheduled for April 6, 2008.
