General Information

  • We still have a few clients that are trying to submit Medicare A and B claims to BCBSKS.  These claims are continuing to reject on the EDI Front End.  The edit rejecting is 3001 – Unable to determine route.  
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and ASK continues to accept claims for all payers, except Medicare, after March 1, 2008. This includes BCBSKS, BCBSKC, HealthNow NY, PHP, and EDI Midwest Commercial Claims.
  • The submission of the Employer's Identification Number, EI qualifier, and/or the Social Security Number, SY qualifier, structure is validated on the EDI Front End. 

When submitting an EI with no dash (-) it must be 9 digits long. When submitting an EI with a dash, the dash must be in the third position and the length must be 10 characters.
When submitting an SY with no dashes (-) it must be 9 digits long. When submitting an SY with dashes, a dash must be in the 4th and 7th position and the length must be 11 characters.  

NPI Information

  • BCBSKS
    • Claims –NPI only, or Dual. Trading Partners wanting to send NPI only, must first notify BCBSKS.
    • We continue to contact providers with a high volume of NPI rejections. Please assist us in urging providers submit NPI only.
    • 05/23/08 – Electronic transaction submitted without an NPI will be rejected.  BCBSKS will continue to allow legacy on electronic transactions containing NPI in the billing and rendering provider loops.

  • 5/23/08 – Claims submitted without an NPI will be rejected.  BCBSKC will continue to allow legacy on claims containing NPI in the billing and rendering provider loops.
  • EDI Midwest Commercial Claims Clearinghouse
  • 4/06/08 – The following edit was released as a warning.  It will become a rejection beginning 5/18/2008.
    • C002 – No NPI submitted – Begin submitting immediately
  • 5/18/08 – Claims submitted without an NPI beginning 5/18 will be rejected.  Legacy provider numbers may be submitted as long as an NPI is present in the billing provider loop.  Some payers may require the NPI in other loops, but ASK will not edit for NPI in any other loop.

TP Education

  • We can't express enough how important it is to have everyone reading reports for rejections and warnings. 

System Status Update

  • The next system deployment is scheduled for May 18th.
