General Announcements:
- Medicare 835 Companion Documents were updated and posted to
Wheatlands web addresses of:

NPI
- On April 3, 2007 CMS announced a contingency plan for NPI implementation. Currently information is posted at: www.cms.hhs.gov/NationalProvIdentStand A download is available on this page that gives specific guidance concerning NPI.
- Please encourage your clients and business partners to begin submitting the NPI along with legacy billing provider numbers at this time. If providers are required to submit NPI information to payers they should do so immediately.
- It is expected that each payer will soon post or notify business partners of their specific NPI plans. We encourage all vendors, clearinghouses, billing services to review each payers plan when announced.
- Updates will be made to our web sites of: www.ask-edi.com, www.bcbsks.com and www.wheatlandsadmin.com with announcements of NPI plans in the near future. Please make sure you are signed up on each email list to receive timely notification.
- Warning edits E010a and E010b are in place for both BCBSKS and HNNY, however the message for these edits changed on April 15, 2007. Messages now states "No NPI submitted – begin submitting immediately". Trading partners receiving these warnings should begin submitting NPI immediately. Warning edit E010a is triggered when no NPI is submitted in the 2010AA Loop and E010b is triggered when a 2310B loop is submitted without an NPI.
- Clients with questions can contact 1.800.472.6481 option number 1 for assistance.
- The Tax ID number is required to be submitted on claims with the NPI. The Tax ID number must be submitted in the 2010AA loop in an REF02 segment.
- In early March 2007 we made every effort to contact our EDI Business Partners (that included Vendors, Clearinghouses, Billing Services) on NPI readiness. In late March we began contacting Trading Partners to advise them to begin submitting the NPI number immediately and to assist with any issues or answer any questions they may have. As a result, these calls may prompt calls with questions and/or concerns from your clients. If we can be of any assistance please contact us at 1.800.472.6481.
- Telephone calls are being made to any provider that receives an NPI edit. These calls are designed to help the provider correct problems and start sending NPI correctly.
System Updates:
- The next system deployment is scheduled for Sunday, May 17, 2007.
Remits:
- BCBS of Kansas
- Prior to a BCBS of KS project implementation a system sync will cause additional remittance advices to be created and delivered to mailboxes during the week of April 23rd - April 27th.

Input from Vendors requested Please:
- Over the past two years EDI has received requests, from clients that use the ASK web address for electronic transactions, for the ability to download multiple files and file types at a time. EDI has reviewed options that include a filter that would allow the user to pick and choose files. In order to accomplish this, EDI would ZIP files to be downloaded. Once completed the user would then need a method to UNZIP the files.
Question – Will this cause any challenges for you or your clients?

Vendor Questions:
- Do you know when Medicare will announce NPI plans?
- CMS held a National Conference Call yesterday. During the call Medicare representatives indicated Medicare would announce NPI plans in the near future.
