General Announcements:

  • EDI Services is currently working to validate provider numbers and transactions used by providers in the last 6 months. If a transaction is not used for a 6-month period of time, the setup will be deleted.
  • EDI Services is currently reviewing new edits for NPI. More information on the edits will be provided in future conference calls.

EDI System Status Update:

  • A production deployment is scheduled for May 23, 2005.
    • With this production deployment an NPI edit will be added as a warning for BCBS of KS only. The edit allows for the submission of the “XX” qualifier. The NPI will then be authenticated.

Upcoming Events

  • June 26, 2005 an EDI System production deployment is scheduled.
    • A warning edit will be put in place for BCBS of KS Dental claims. The warning edit is for the date of service by procedure code.
    • EDI is evaluating eligibility edits to improve the first pass pay rates. EDI is looking at adding edits for BCBS of KS. Today EDI validates the ID number but, the new edits will be validating the first two characters of the last name of the insured. If the insured is the patient they will validate date of birth, 9 characters of the first name. If the insured is not the same as the patient the date of birth of the patient, 9 characters of the first name and the relationship to the insured (IRC). Before any implementation of these type of edits is made EDI must evaluate system resources and several other areas they could impact. Eligiblity edits would be phased in. Currently payers such as BCBS of KS are educating providers on the importance of obtaining and submitting accurate information.
