General Announcements:
- Reminder – EDI Services will be validating the use of all transactions by provider number. If a transaction is not used during a 6 months time frame the transaction will be deleted.
- EDI Services is prepared to take NPI information from all Trading Partners. Remember, payers are not required to take the NPI Number until 2007.
EDI System Status Update:
- The NPI edit was added as a warning for BCBSKS only, on May 23. This edit allows for the submission of the ‘XX’ qualifier. When submitted the data content will be edited.
Upcoming Events
- The next deployment is scheduled for June 26, 2005.
- On June 26, 2005, a warning edit will be added to BCBSKS Dental Claims verifying the Procedure Code against the Date of Service. This will verify the procedure code is valid for dates of service submitted.
MCS Transition:
- A special MCS Vendor call will be held on June 23 at 10:00. The same phone number and pass code will be used. (1 -877-326-2337 – Pass code 2102557.) Please relay this information to anyone you feel needs to attend this call.
- The payer id change for Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas has been rescheduled. Notification of the newly scheduled date will be mailed tomorrow to all vendors and all providers in Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas. Please check the Medicare Website for updates.
835 Information:
- Remits will be returned to the provider with the NPI number if the NPI number is submitted on the claim.
- Kansas City is periodically having problems creating 835’s. Once their system thinks it has created an 835, they cannot create a second 835, so providers may have to rely on the paper remit for hand posting. BCBSKC put in a fix last weekend they believe will correct the problem.
- Reminder: When moving from Test to Production there is a possibility of partial or no Test or Production remittance advice being created for the date movement from Test to Production.
- Providers previously set to production for 835 transactions are beginning to receive notification from Medicare A that their paper remits will be terminated on July 5. Providers need to contact the telephone number listed in the letter for any questions.
- Beginning July 1, 2005, providers adding 835 transactions for Medicare A, will only receive the paper remittance for 31 days after production status is reach.
- As of June 1, 2005, PC Print was made available for download on the Medicare A web site http://www.kansasmedicare.com/part_A/edi/free.htm, supplying the Trading Partner with a mechanism for print image of the 835 remittance advice. This software does not post remittance advices. PC Ace Pro 32 software is also available for print image.
Telecommunications Changes:
- Tentatively scheduled for April 2006, file transfer by dialing directly into the EDI System (dial-up) will be eliminated. Vendors should encourage their sites to move to IVANS, VisionShare, or using the ASK Website.
- A worksheet to help providers determine future needs will be posted to the Websites for ASK, Medicare and BCBSKS. Providers should use this worksheet before contacting IVANS or VisionShare.
- FAQ’s have been posted to the Websites.
Provider Communications:
- The 3 rd quarter Just ASK newsletter will be mailed the first week of July.
- The MCS Transition has been postponed. Implementation is scheduled for August 3, 2005. Workshops are scheduled for July and have been posted. Please encourage your clients and team mates to sign up for the E-mail listing sign up on payer web sites.
