June 21, 2007

General Announcements:

  • Wheatlands Administrative Service is no longer in the running for the new Medicare contract also known as A/B MAC for Jurisdiction 5 (J5).  J5 includes Kansas, Nebraska, all of Missouri, and Iowa for Medicare Fee for Service for both Medicare A and B. Until the contract award is announced at the end of July 2007 business will continue as usual. Wheatlands Administrative Services will continue to provide Medicare providers in Kansas, Nebraska and NW Missouri outstanding service for a smooth transition to the new Medicare Administrative Contractor. Transition to the new contractor is scheduled to be completed by mid 2008. Wheatlands Administrative Services will keep the provider community informed as information becomes available. Please sign up for email list so you receive the latest notifications (http://www.wheatlandsadmin.com/index.htm).  In preparation of this move vendors may want to have your clients begin splitting Medicare claims and other payer claims into separate batches.

NPI

  • A review of payer NPI status. We encourage all clients and business partners to begin submitting the NPI along with legacy billing provider number. Please review each payers NPI plan.
    • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas
      • 837 Claims – will allow legacy and NPI (Dual usage), NPI only, or legacy only. BCBSKS requires providers wanting to send NPI only to notify BCBSKS. Please note that once the provider notifies BCBSKS of submission of NPI only, claims submitted with any other combination will be rejected.  Please make sure your clients are aware of this.  Additional information is posted at:
      • 835 Remit - Trading Partners will receive the same billing provider submitted on the claim.
    • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City
      • 837 Claims – continues to allow legacy and NPI (Dual usage), NPI only, or legacy only.
      • 835 Remit – Trading Partners will receive both legacy and NPI on all electronic remittance if the NPI has been reported to BCBSKC.
    • Medicare A
    • Medicare B
  • Warning edits E010a and E010b remain in place for BCBSKS, HNNY, Medicare B and Medicare A. The warning message reads "No NPI submitted – begin submitting immediately".
