Vendor Meetings
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas EDI Services
Vendor Call Minutes
August 17, 2006
General Announcements:
- All vendors are encouraged to check with each payer to identify the payer plans for implementation of NPI. They are also encouraged to remind providers to send NPI numbers to the payers. Medicare does not require notification from the providers.
- New policies are in place requiring EDI Enrollment and Change of Information Forms and Medicare Agreements to be returned in full. If the entire form is not returned, the trading partner will be contacted and requested to submit the entire form.
- Vendors were asked if they have heard anything from their customers regarding NPI? It was stated that about 99% of the providers are confused about how to enumerate. (Enumeration is the term used by the industry to define the process of determining the correct type of NPI number to use.)
System Updates:
- The next system deployment is scheduled for Sunday, October 1, 2006.
All Payer Information:
- BCBSKS is accepting electronic claims for all secondary claims, except for Medicare primary. These claims should be crossed over by Medicare and providers are asked to allow 30 days for the crossover to work. If the crossover does not work after 30 days, then these claims
can be filed on paper. BCBSKS is working to allow all secondary claims electronically.
835 Information:
- Test remittance advices are available for BCBSKS and Medicare A.
- Test remittance advices contain production data, so the test remit is the same as production with a test indicator. Vendors were polled to determine if there is a need to receive test files. Trading Partners can chose to post from the files during testing of the electronic remittance advice.
- There has been some confusion regarding remits delivered to the trading partner mailboxes daily. The Medicare B adjudication system creates 835 remits on a daily basis for claims with zero payment, so trading partners may still received remits daily. Since the primary financial cycles run
on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the primary remits will be generated on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Free software is available for providers to create a print image of the 835 remit file. Trading partners that do not have automatic-posting capabilities primarily use this free software. PC-ACE Pro32 will create print images for Medicare A and Medicare B. The 835 print image for BCBSKS,
BCBSKC, and HealthNow New York will show the patient information only. (This is a correction over what was stated in the meeting.) PC Print is available for Medicare A only, and Easy Print is available for Medicare B only.
276/277 Issues:
- Medicare Part A is currently reporting issues from FISS. With the data center move announced this may not be resolved until the transition is completed.
Telecommunications Changes:
- The date to discontinue use of the toll-free dialup numbers for electronic transactions for asynchronous and FTP file transfers passed on August 1, 2006. Trading partners that continue to use these numbers will begin to receive busy signals as modems are removed from these
lines.
Provider Communications:
- The next issue of the Just ASK! Newsletter will be posted on the ASK website sometime in September.
