September 15, 2008
General Information:
- ANSI 5010 – On August 22, 2008 Health and Human Services released the proposed draft for ANSI 5010. Currently the original implementation date of the draft rule is 4/1/2010.
- ICD-10 – The implementation date of the draft rule for this is 10/1/2011. ICD-10 cannot be implemented until ANSI 5010 has been. Some high-level Q&A's will be posted for TP's/Vendors/Providers in the future on the ASK-EDI and BCBSKS web sites.
Currently we are preparing comments to be submitted that include, but are not limited to, the aggressive implementation dates. We want to encourage you to submit comment prior to October 21, 2008.
NPI Information
- To accommodate NPI new EDI Enrollment and Change forms will be posted to the web sites. Once the new forms have been released an email notifier will be sent to announce publication.
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and Kansas City are asking for your assistance. Please help us encourage all providers to begin submitting NPI only, removing all legacy information, as soon as possible.
Telecommunication Update
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas will discontinue the dial-up X, Y and Z Modem communications as of 12/31/08.
- Preferred method of transmission is through the ASK web site or FTP.
- Secure FTP is also available.

System Updates
- The next routine system deployment is scheduled for October 5, 2008
All Payer Information
- Effective November 06, 2008 two corrections will be made to the BCBSKS remittance advice.
- A correction will be made to BPR07 of the ANSI 4010A1 835 file. BPR07 is used to report the ABA Transit Routing number. An ABA Transit Routing number is 9 digits. Currently BCBSKS is reporting a space in front of the 9 digit number. The space will be removed.
- A correction will be made to the CLP02 of the ANSI 4010A1 835 file. CLP02 is used to report the claim status code. Periodically BCBSKS is reporting a 1, Processed as Primary. The claim status code will be reported correctly.
September 15, 2008 the new EDI Midwest reports were made available. The new EDI Midwest reports are streamlined and provide a more user friendly report.
