CMS is reporting the National Percentage for migration to the HIPPA formats at 99.75%.
General Announcements:
- Effective 12/04/2005, password requirements on the EDI System will change. Anyone changing their password after 12/04/2005 needs to insure that their password meets the following requirements:
- Must be eight (8) characters in length, no longer or shorter
- Must include both alpha and numeric characters
- Can’t be reused for at least six (6) generations
- Must be changed every 60 days
Special characters may be used in your password but are not required. If you choose to use special characters in your password, the following is a list of valid characters to use.

This was posted to all web sites.
- The next EDI system deployment is scheduled for Sunday October 30, 2005. Our normal maintenance schedule is from 6:00 p.m. through midnight however EDI will need to start at 3:00 p.m.
System Updates:
- With EDI system deployment October 30, 2005 edit A337 will move from a working to a rejection for Institutional claims. (Value of ‘0001’ not valid on electronic claims)
Upcoming Events:
- PC Ace Pro32 update version, 1.72.0.100 was released October 18,2005. The update can be downloaded from: http://www.ask-edi.com/pc-ace_pro32/ec_health-updates.htm
MCS Transition:
- MCS Transition for Medicare B claims processing system was successfully moved and completed September 6, 2005.
- Current MCS System Problem/Resolution information along with additional information is posted at the Medicare web site of: http://www.kansasmedicare.com/part_b/mcs.htm

835 Information:
- Status on Medicare A – Submitted to FISS a question concerning a remittance advice both paper and electronic reflecting – "CO" and "96" on an Remittance advice."
- The CO is in the 835 4010A1 Loop 2100 CAS01 segment = Contractual Obligations
- The 96 is in the 835 4010A1 Loop 2100 CAS02 segment = Non- covered charge(s).
This issue was submitted to Medicare for further research.
Telecommunications Changes:
- ASK will be discontinuing the dial-up connections for file transfer. Vendors should encourage their sites to move to IVANS, VisionShare, or using the ASK Website.
- Changes are currently being reviewed and the telecommunications manual posted ot hew web sites will be updated in the future.
270/271 Issues:
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is ready for production.
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City is ready for production however they need to have a separate ST-SE transaction set header for each request.
276/277 Issues:
- Medicare A has reported an issue to FISS. FISS is currently working on a fix however does not have a date the fix will be implemented.
- Medicare B, with the MCS Transition complete, will open up testing
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas. Currently on production.
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City is ready for production however they need to have a separate ST-SE transaction set header for each request
