CMS is reporting the National Percentage for migration to the HIPPA formats at 99.71%.  The claim contingency plan was ended by CMS in October 2005.

General Announcements:

  • Effective 12/04/2005, password requirements on the EDI System will change.

System Updates:

  • An EDI Deployment is scheduled for Sunday, December 18, 2005. 
    • Changes are being made to some of the edit descriptions.
  • The next regularly scheduled EDI system deployment is scheduled for Sunday January 15, 2006.
    • Some minor edit will be added with a 60-day warning.  These will be simple edits only to cover items most which most Trading Partners are already aware.

Upcoming Events:

  • BCBSKS will be closed Friday December 23 and Monday, December 26, 2005 for the Christmas Holiday. 
  • BCBSKS will be closed Monday January 2, 2006 for the New Year’s Holiday.

Medicare A and B:

  • Beginning January 3, 2006 Medicare will allow the submittal of the XX qualifier for NPI.  Claims submitted with the NPI must include the Medicare (Legacy) provider number in the REF segment, or claims will be rejected.

BCBSKS Reported Issue:

  • Nothing new to report.

EDI Midwest Status:

  • Nothing new to report.

835 Information:

  • Medicare A submitted to FISS an issue concerning remittance advice for both paper and electronic reflecting – "CO" and "96" on an Remittance advice."
    • The CO is in the 835 4010A1 Loop 2100 CAS01 segment  = Contractual Obligations
    • The 96 is in the 835 4010A1 Loop 2100 CAS02 segment = Non- covered charge(s). 
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas will be perusing a more aggressive approach to providers using the 835 electronic remit in 2006.  Vendors are encouraged to work with their Trading Partners to add this transaction for BCBSKS. 

Telecommunications Changes:

  • Trading Partners are encouraged to move to using FTP or the Internet for file transfer.  EDI Services is considering the elimination of the asynchronous options.

270/271 Issues:

  • Nothing new to report.

276/277 Issues:

  • Nothing new to report.
