General Announcements
- The Medicare Jurisdiction 5 A/B MAC transition is scheduled to be completed by March 1, 2008. To keep up to date and all changes regarding this transition providers and vendors are encouraged to sign-up for email notifications at: http://www.wheatlandsadmin.com/, or http://www.wpsmedicare.com/provider/mac.shtml. Everyone needs to remember that beginning March 1, 2008 Medicare claims will need to be sent to a new location, WPS, so it would be in the best interest of the clients to make sure trading partners can split the Medicare claims from all other claims
- NPI is now required on all EDI Enrollment forms. Copies of the new forms stating this requirement are available on the website. Please make sure to update the enrollment forms you have on file for your customers.
- Lisa with WPS attended the call and announced that WPS Medicare would be having an Ask the Contractor Call on January 9, 2008 from 1:00 - 2:30 cst. To participate in the call, dial 877-290-9695 and enter conference ID 24672173. For more information, check www.wpsmedicare.com.
NPI Information
- BCBSKS:
- 837 Transactions (Claims) – Accepts NPI only, Dual Use, or Legacy only (until January 1, 2008). Trading partners wanting to send NPI only must notify BCBSKS first.
- NPI will be required on all claims submitted beginning January 1, 2008.
- Edit B383 was added on December 3, 2007 to replace edit E010A. This edit will be a warning until January 1, 2008, when it will be changed to a rejection requiring NPI in the billing provider loop.
- BCBSKC:
- 837 Transactions (Claims) – Accepts NPI only, Dual Use, or Legacy only.
- 835 Transactions (Remits) – If the NPI has been reported to the payer, trading partners will receive both legacy and NPI on all 835 transactions.
- Medicare A:
- 837 Transactions (Claims) – Accepts NPI only, Dual Use, or Legacy only (until January 1, 2008).
- NPI will be required on all claims submitted beginning January 1, 2008. Claims submitted with legacy only in the 2010AA loop will be returned to the providers on remits as unprocessable, MA130. Providers were notified of this change through: http://www.wheatlandsadmin.com/part_a/npi/MedicarePartANPIRequiredJanuary12008.htm.
- Medicare B:
- 837 Transactions (Claims) – Accepts NPI only, Dual Use, or Legacy only (until March 1, 2008).
- NPI will be required on all Medicare B claims beginning March 1, 2008. This coincides with the J5 transition.

- We can't express enough how important it is to have everyone reading reports for rejections and warnings.

- Medicare B
- Medicare B remittance advices delivered December 4, 2007 may contain error(s) in the SVC loop which could cause problems when downloading and posting. You may contact the Helpdesk at 1-800-472-6481, opt. 1, then opt. 2 if you have questions or need assistance.
- The delivery of Medicare B electronic remittance advices for December 5, 2007 through December 8, 2007 was completed Tuesday December 11, 2007.
System Updates
- The next routine system deployment is scheduled for January 6, 2008.
