General Information:

• We reviewed the HIPAA Version 5010 dates and what each level of compliance means:
• By December 31, 2010 all covered entities must achieve Level 1 Compliance.
  Level 1compliance = All covered entities must have all internal testing complete.
  All must be able to receive and send a HIPAA 5010 compliant transactions.
• By January 1, 2011 Level 2 testing period begins.
  Level 2 testing = Trading Partners can begin HIPAA 5010 testing and move toward the production date of January 1, 2012. 
• By January 1, 2012 Trading Partners and covered entities must achieve Level 2 compliance.
  Level 2 compliance – Only version HIPAA 5010 can be used.
• Update in terminology for the ANSI 5010 implementation guides. Implementation Guide is now referred to as TR3's (Technical Reports).  These may be purchased through the Washington Publishing Company. 
• Upcoming Just ASK Newsletter will contain HIPAA 5010 information.
• We brought to the audience attention some changes with transactions they may see. 
• Billing and Service facility zip codes are now expanded to the zip plus 4.
• The 835 transaction will return in the 2300 CLM01, ONLY the first 20 characters.
• Some providers may change or update their NPI enumeration.
• All vendors will be contacted within the next 30 days. We will be asking seven questions about your HIPAA 5010 implementation plans. This is not a survey. Some questions will include:
• Do you have a timeline?
• How will you migrate your clients?
• Where are we (ASK/BCBSKS/BCBSKC) on your timelines?
• We will also be asking you to update your contact information. This information will be critical during the transition to HIPAA 5010.     
• HIPAA 5010 information is being posted to the ASK and BCBSKS web sites. 
• When information becomes available it will be published to the ASK and BCBSKS web sites. 
• We strongly recommend signing up for the email notifier on these web pages. This is the most efficient method of getting the most current 5010 information.
• With changes for HIPAA 5010, ASK is required to reconsider how files are submitted.  A change will be made with the implementation of 5010, and would not affect 4010A1.  The participating vendors were asked the type of impact vendors would feel if ASK required either; a separate file for each payer, or a separate GS - GE or ST - SE record for each payer.
• Responses from vendors indicated a strong feeling that separating files by payer would have a huge impact, and everyone would rather see either a separate GS – GE or ST – SE for each payer.

System Updates

• The next routine system deployment is scheduled for March 21, 2010.   

 

Telecommunication Update

• Dial up FTP will be eliminated with HIPAA 5010 implementation.
